Colombia: Advancing Socio-economic Integration for Migrants, Refugees, IDPs and Host Communities

February 04, 2025

In December 2024, GOPA Worldwide Consultants completed its contribution to the German-government GIZ supported Iniciativa Bogotá 2.0 (IB2.0) project which aims to improve the socio-economic integration of refugees, migrants, returnees and host communities in Bogotá

A Collective Effort for Inclusion

Partnerships between the public sector (through Bogotá’s City Hall and its administration), private sector as well as civil society (CSO) and community-based (CBO) organisations were crucial in promoting and protecting rights, as well as aiding in the initial reception and socio-economic integration of a diverse range of populations.

Key Results Achieved with Support from GOPA

  • 9000+ people (77%% women, 45% migrants, 6% LGBTIQ+) accessed improved services linked to social integration, legal advice, economic integration as well as sexual and reproductive rights
  • 13 CSOs and CBOs strengthened in their organisational development and capacity to deliver inclusive services for vulnerable populations
  • An inter-institutional information system set up to monitor Bogotá’s Migration Public Policy
  • 2000+ public servants sensitised and trained on migration policies and services
  • 1900+ health workers’ capacities strengthened in humanized medical care
  • Developed Colombia's first Combined Syphilis Prevention Course, now part of Bogotá’s Health Secretariat pedagogical tools (online course)
  • 2 studies conducted on Bogotá’s employment ecosystem, providing recommendations for stakeholders regarding inclusive employment strategies and practices
  • 500+ human resource managers trained on inclusive and competency-based hiring practices
  • 50 entrepreneurs supported in growing and scaling their businesses
  • 1500+ job seekers accessed training and advisory services; 236 of them found decent jobs
