Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism (ESRT) Capacity Development Programme

2011-03 to 2015-11

Major activities addressing a green economy: Rapid uncontrolled growth and inadequate management of resources have had a negative impact on the Vietnamese tourism sector. For the further development of the sector, the Vietnamese Government (GoV) decided to use its outstanding natural, cultural and historic heritage to generate foreign exchange, income and employment and to preserve traditional culture, while raising the standard of living of the population, especially of the poor and disadvantaged groups of society. The ESRT with TA provided by a GOPA-led consortium supports the Government in this regard and aims at mainstreaming responsible tourism in the Vietnamese tourism sector by promoting pro-poor tourism initiatives, environmental protection and cultural heritage preservation, energy- and water conservation measures as well as community-based tourism among policy makers, private sector and tourism schools.
